With Heavy Hearts —
In Loving Memory of Marsha Haygood
It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we share the passing of Marsha Haygood — beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mentor, coach, author, leader, and cherished friend to so many.
To her family, Marsha was the heart of so much—a steady source of love, strength, laughter, and wisdom. She was deeply devoted to her beloved husband, Donald, who passed away last year. Their love was a defining part of her life, and she held his memory close in all that followed. We find comfort in knowing they are reunited in eternal peace. She took great joy in her relationships with her family, including her sister, her sons, her daughter-in-law, as well as her nephew, his life partner, and her niece—and most of all, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense pride and happiness. Marsha’s love extended far beyond her home; she had a rare gift for making people feel seen, supported, and encouraged. Whether you knew her as family, a lifelong friend, a colleague, or a mentor, Marsha made an unforgettable impact through her warmth, generosity, and unwavering belief in others.
Marsha lived a life rooted in purpose, empowerment, and service. As the President and Founder of StepWise Associates, LLC, she dedicated her career to helping individuals and organizations thrive through intentional leadership, talent development, and transformative coaching. Prior to her work as a consultant and coach, she served with distinction in Human Resources and Administration at major entertainment companies including New Line Cinema and Orion Pictures, where her strategic insight and compassionate leadership shaped countless careers and organizational cultures.
A best-selling author and thought leader, Marsha’s voice reached far beyond boardrooms and workshops. She co-authored the acclaimed The Little Black Book of Success: Laws of Leadership for Black Women, along with its companion workbook, offering practical wisdom and encouragement to professionals navigating the complexities of leadership and career growth. Her work empowered thousands of women and men to see their potential, embrace their strengths, and lead with confidence.
Marsha’s most recent book, “The Next Little Black Book of Success”, created once again with her co-authors, was completed as part of her final chapter and stands as her last offering to the world. It reflects the depth of her lived experience, her unwavering commitment to growth, and her desire to leave behind wisdom that would continue to guide others long after her passing. This work is not simply a book — it is a reflection of her heart, her voice, and her enduring belief in the power of purposeful leadership.
In addition to her writing, Marsha appeared in Speaking of Success alongside esteemed authors such as Stephen R. Covey, Ken Blanchard, and Jack Canfield — sharing insight and inspiration with audiences far and wide.
Marsha’s influence extended into her community as a founding member of Black Women of Influence, where she helped create spaces for connection, growth, and mutual support. She received numerous honors for her contributions, including awards recognizing her impact in business, community service, and leadership development. Her guidance, humor, and thoughtful presence were gifts she shared generously with all who were fortunate to know her.
Her passing is a significant loss — not only to her family and friends, but to every life she touched through her teaching, coaching, writing, and advocacy. Marsha’s legacy will continue in the countless leaders she helped shape, the readers she inspired, and the communities she served with heart.
